    Server Requirements
Macintosh computers running AppleShare IP Server 6.0 Beta Seed 2 software or later.

    Client Requirements
Macintosh or PC connected to the network running Netscape Communicator 4.0 or later, Internet Explorer 3.0 or later, or Netscape Navigator 3.0.1 or later.

    Installation and Setup

    1. Install AppleShare IP 6.0 Beta Seed 2 or later. Use Easy Install to install all of the services or use Custom Install to install at least the Web & File Server.

    2. Follow the Installation and Setup for AppleShare IP 6.0.

    3. Double click on the WebAdmin Installer to have the Web-based Remote Admin software installed in the Web Folder on your server's startup hard disk.

    4. Launch the AppleShare IP Web & File Admin application and enable the 'Allow remote
administration via a Web Browser' checkbox in the General panel of the Web & File Settings window."

    5. If the Web & File Server is not running, start the server.

    6. Make sure Web service is enabled in the Web panel of the Web & File Settings window.

    Using Web-based Remote Admin

You should have previously installed AppleShare IP Web & File Server and started the Web service on your server computer.

    1. To administer the AppleShare IP Server, launch a supported Web browser on any computer connected to the network.

    2. Enter the following URL replacing the "Server-DNS-name" with the AppleShare IP Server's DNS name.

    http://"Server-DNS-name"/WebAdmin/WebAdmin.acgi

To find out the server's DNS-name, run the AppleShare IP Manager and select the Show Network Info menu item from the Manager menu. You may substitute the server's IP address for the server's DNS-name in the URL if desired.

    Known Problems
    • International characters are not displayed correctly in the Java Login window. This will be fixed in an upcoming seed release.
    • To use Internet Explorer as your Web browser, please set the Java preferences to use the "Microsoft Virtual Machine". This Seed release is incompatible with Internet Explorer when configured to use the Macintosh Runtime Java (MRJ).
    • When attempting to logon multiple times to WebAdmin in the same Internet Explorer session, you will need to select the Refresh function in your Browser to send a new log on page to the server.
    • Using the proxy server settings in your Netscape Communicator's Advanced browser options has been observed to cause timeout problems and a general inability to write any data to the WebAdmin server. If you experience this problem, you may want to choose the "Direct connection to the Internet" option thus disabling the use of the proxy server. If you must continue to use the proxy server settings then talk to your Proxy Server administrator about enabling HTTP write access to server on which you are running the WebAdmin.acgi software.
    • If you do not have Guest access enabled for Web and "Read-Only" guest access for the WebAdmin Folder and its contents, you will be asked to login twice: once for HTTP and once for Web-based Remote Administration. This will be fixed in a later release.
    • Web-based Remote Admin requires the AppleShare IP Web & File Server to be running. Disabling the Web Service in Web Server Settings will immediately terminate your connection and result in a Network connection error from your Web browser.
    • Web-based Remote Admin will not work properly if the "WebAdmin" folder
inside your Web Folder is moved or renamed. Do not move, rename or delete the "WebAdmin" folder or its contents.
