    This article discusses how to install the Power Macintosh G3 (Blue and White) internal modem software.


DISCUSSION

    If the software or the G3 internal modem is not installed, or installed incorrectly, you may notice one or more of these symptoms.
    • Modem control panel will say "no serial ports available".
    • TCP/IP control panel will not have PPP as a choice from the Connect via pop up list.
    • 'AT' commands will not work in any terminal program.
    • Other software may tell you that the modem is not responding or cannot detect a modem.

    Listed below are three different ways to install/reinstall the modem software for the Power Macintosh G3 (Blue and White).

    Please choose the method of installation that you are most comfortable with.

    Installation Procedure #1:
      1. Boot from the Mac OS CD that came with the computer.
      2. Double click Mac OS Install.
      3. Click Continue at the welcome screen.
      4. Click Selec" to pick the hard drive.
      5. Select Add/Remove.
      6. Check the Mac OS 8.5 installation check box in the list.
      7. Switch the Mac OS 8.5 install from the Recommended Installation to Customized installation.
      8. Scroll the list down to Network and Connectivity and expand the section by clicking on the triangle.
      9. Check the box for the Power Macintosh G3 modem, then click OK.
      10. Click Start and wait until it is finished installing.
      11. Quit the installer.
      12. Restart the computer.


    Installation Procedure #2:
      1. Boot from the Mac OS CD that came with the computer.
      2. Trash the PowerMac G3 Modem extension from the extensions folder on the hard drive, if present.
      3. Double click the Apple software Restore.
      4. Select the option for Restore in Place.
      5. Click the Restore button and wait until it is finished restoring.
      6. Restart the computer.


    Installation Procedure #3:
      1. Boot from the Mac OS CD that came with the computer.
      2. Open the Configurations Folder on the Power Macintosh G3 CD.
      3. Double click on the Power Macintosh G3 HD.img icon. (This will mount an image file on the desktop called "Macintosh HD".)
      4. Double click on the Macintosh HD image file. and navigate to the extensions folder within the image file's System Folder.
      5. Drag the PowerMac G3 Modem extension from the image and drop it over a closed System folder on the hard drive.
      6. When the message comes up asking you if you want to place it in the Extensions folder. Click OK.
      7. When the message comes up telling you that the PowerMac G3 Modem extension already exists and do you want to replace it. Click OK.
      8. Restart the computer.
