TOPIC
On a computer with Mac OS 8.6 and QuickTime 4 beta if you change the Date and Time control panel to reflect the year 2000, alert sounds are muted.
DISCUSSION Note: This is NOT a Y2K bug. The issue is caused by a beta version of the Sound Manager extension. This extension is installed with QuickTime 4 beta software. In the year 2000, this extension (and other QuickTime beta software) will expire. Upon restart, the computer will display the message: "The Sound Manager Extension has expired.", meaning the beta version of the Sound Manager extension has expired. QuickTime 4 beta software was made available until early June, 1999, and is no longer available. To resolve this issue, install QuickTime 4 (final version).
