TOPIC

The only version of QuickTime which is qualified for use with Final Cut Pro 1.0 is QuickTime 4 Beta 16, which was included on the Final Cut Pro CD. For more information on QuickTime 4 compatibility, see the following Tech Info Library article:

    Article 59002: " Final Cut Pro 1.0: QuickTime 4 Compatibility "

Some Final Cut Pro users may have installed a later version of QuickTime. These later versions are not supported with Final Cut Pro 1.0, and unlike the version on the Final Cut Pro CD, they will expire.

This article outlines the process for moving from a later version of QuickTime 4 back to the version that was delivered on the Final Cut Pro CD.

Note: Apple has released an update to Final Cut Pro that supports the most recent version of QuickTime 4. For more information, see the following Tech Info Library article:

DISCUSSION

To return to the version of QuickTime that came with Final Cut Pro, you should follow these steps:

    Step One

If you have registered the Pro version of QuickTime 4, ensure you have the registration number (the "key" you received via e-mail) written down elsewhere before proceeding:

      1. Launch the QuickTime Player.
      2. From the Edit menu, select "Preferences" and "Registration".
      3. Take a screen shot (apple-shift-3) of the window with your registration information, or copy the information down precisely (registration depends on accurate entry of all characters, including preceding and/or following spaces).
      4. Quit the QuickTime Player.

    Step Two

Uninstall the later version of QuickTime 4 using the matching version of the QuickTime 4 Installer:

      1. Launch the Installer.
      2. Select the "Custom" radio button from the installation types available.
      3. Click "Continue".
      4. Select "Uninstall" from the drop down menu for custom installation.
      5. Options click "Uninstall".

    Step Three

Reinstall QuickTime 4b16 from the Final Cut Pro CD:

      1. Copy the QuickTime 4 folder to your hard drive from the Final Cut Pro CD, if it is not already there.
      2. Launch the QuickTime 4 Installer from the hard drive.
      3. Select the appropriate radio button for the installation you wish to perform.
      4. Click the "Continue" button and subsequent buttons as needed for your configuration.

    Step Four

Do not update to a later version of QuickTime 4, when asked if you would like to do so by QuickTime 4b16.

Note: Step Two of this process advises you to use the matching version of the QuickTime 4 Installer to remove any installed version of QuickTime 4. All versions of the QuickTime 4 Installer remove or disable most QuickTime 4 files, but when attempting to uninstall a non-matching version of QuickTime 4, they will leave a small subset of files which may interfere with the subsequent installation and operation of QuickTime 4.

If you have deleted the Installer of the version you need to uninstall, you may need to delete some QuickTime files by hand.
