TOPIC

While using QuickTime 4, I installed QuickTime 4 (beta 16) for use with Final Cut Pro 1.0. QuickTime 4 (beta 16) was installed from the Final Cut Pro 1.0 CD.

Before installation, I deactivated all the QuickTime extensions in the Extensions Manager.

Upon restarting the computer after installing QuickTime 4 (beta 16), I continue to get messages about the wrong version of QuickTime being installed. What is causing this?

DISCUSSION

To ensure proper installation, all existing QuickTime extensions should be removed from the Extensions folder before installing a different version of QuickTime 4.

Note: Using Extensions Manager to deactivate the QuickTime package does not remove the QuickTime extensions from the Extensions folder. The extensions should be dragged into the Trash, and the Trash emptied.

To remove the QuickTime extensions follow these steps.

    1. Start the computer with Extensions off. (Hold down the Shift key while the computer boots.)
    2. Open the Extensions folder.
    3. Drag the QuickTime Extensions folder into the Trash.
    4. Drag the following QuickTime extensions into the Trash:
      - QuickTime
      - QuickTime MPEG Extension
      - QuickTime Musical Instruments
      - QuickTime PowerPlug
      - QuickTime Settings
      - QuickTime VR
      - Sound Manager
    5. Empty the Trash.

Note: Apple has released an update to Final Cut Pro that supports the most recent version of QuickTime 4. For more information, see the following Tech Info Library article: Article 60419: Final Cut Pro 1.0.1: Read Me
