TOPIC

In AppleShare IP groups can be the owner of a folder or share point. However, when I try to make a group the owner of a share point in Mac OS X Server's Remote Administration program I get the message, "Your request could not be completed. The owner name is not a valid user name. Please try again."

DISCUSSION

It is not possible to configure a share point so that its owner is a group in the Remote Administration program of Mac OS X Server. This is an inherent limitation of the underlying BSD heritage of Mac OS X Server. Mac OS X Server does, however, allow assigning privileges down to the file level, which AppleShare IP does not.
