TOPIC

A computer running Mac OS X Public Beta may not start up, or will stop responding if the SCSI chain is improperly terminated.

DISCUSSION

    Symptom

The computer does not start up, or stops responding. The spinning color wheel may be displayed, and the computer may appear unresponsive.

    Products affected

    • Mac OS X Public Beta
    • Any computer with SCSI devices connected to it

    Solution

This is the result of improperly terminated SCSI chains. Verify that all SCSI chains are terminated at both ends. This includes terminating any SCSI card that is the last device in the chain.

Note: Mac OS 9 is more tolerant of improper termination than Mac OS X Public Beta. A SCSI chain that worked using Mac OS 9 may not work using Mac OS X Public Beta.
