TOPIC This article discusses how Mac OS X Public Beta registers (loads) fonts, and how a font's location determines its priority if it exists in more than one location.
DISCUSSION Fonts are registered and searched for in the following order, and in the following locations. 1. /System/Library/Fonts (system directory) 2. /Library/Fonts (local directory) 3. /Network/Library/Fonts (network directory, if it exists) 4. ~/Library/Fonts (user directory) 5. Application or document-specific fonts (when opened) Note: If a font file exists in more than one of these locations, the one which loads last (lower on this list) takes priority and will be used.
