TOPIC After creating an iTools HomePage using a Japanese browser and editing it with a non-Japanese browser, the text no longer appears correctly.

Symptom
Solution Although iTools is available in both English and Japanese, there can be some unusual results if you attempt to create and edit pages using both languages in the same page. You should limit the creation of Web pages on your HomePage Web site to one encoding style. Note: For more information on two-byte versus one-byte character sets, see article 31106: " WorldScript: 1-byte and 2-byte Script Systems Explained ". Additional information Japanese browser When a page is created in a Japanese browser, HomePage will use Shift_JIS encoding to encode the text on the page. This page, when edited on an English system, will convert all two-byte text into question marks ("????"). This text cannot be recovered and must be deleted and re-entered from a Japanese system in order to restore the original text. Non-Japanese browsers When a page is created with a browser from any other language, HomePage will use ISO-8859-1 encoding to encode the text on the page. This page, when edited on a Japanese system, will not accept two-byte characters, and will instead show odd collections of option characters. This data cannot be recovered and the page must be deleted and re-created from a Japanese system in order to use two-byte characters on that page. |
