DISCUSSION

(This information is gleaned from the Info Center online help system, which is located on your computer's hard disk.)

Note: You may want to print these instructions for future reference.

    Turning the Computer On
To turn your computer on, follow these instructions:

1.Press the power button on the Apple USB keyboard or on the front of the computer.

You should hear a sound from the computer as it starts up. If you don't, press the power button again and hold down the button a little longer.

Note: You won't hear a sound if you have headphones plugged in, have the sound turned off, or have external speakers plugged into the sound output port and their volume is turned down. In these cases, wait for the bright screen.

You can also turn the computer on by pressing the power button on the front panel of the computer.

    Turning the Computer Off
To turn your computer off, follow these instructions:

1.Press the power button on the Apple USB keyboard or on the front of the computer. (You can also open the Special menu and choose Shut Down.) A message asks if you want to shut down your computer.

2.Press the Return key on the keyboard (or click the Shut Down button on the screen).
If any applications are still open, a message asks if you want to save your work before the computer shuts down.
Important: Do not use the switch on a power strip to turn the computer off unless you can't turn it off with the power button on the Apple USB keyboard or on the front of the computer, or by using the Shut Down command. Files could be damaged if your computer is not shut down properly. Your system software could also get damaged or corrupted. Unsaved work will be lost.

If you have problems turning the computer on or off, see the Emergency Handbook that came with your computer for more information.

Important: The only way to completely disconnect power from the computer is to unplug the power cord from the outlet. You can also unplug the power cord from the back of the computer, but Apple recommends that you unplug the cord from the outlet.
