TOPIC

This article explains how to use either the built-in or an external microphone with your iMac.

DISCUSSION

(This information is gleaned from the Info Center online help system, which is located on your computer's hard disk.)

Your computer comes with a built-in microphone. The microphone is monoral and highly sensitive. Once you've turned it on (which you do with a sound-recording application), it can pick up sounds within a range of several feet.

To turn on the microphone and use it as the sound input device, follow these steps:

    1. From the Apple menu, open the Monitors & Sound control panel.
    2. Click the Sound button.
    3. From the Sound Monitoring Source pop-up menu, choose Built-in Mic.
    4. Click the close box to close the control panel.

Important: Some microphones won't work properly without the use of a third-party sound recording application.
