TOPIC

In ClarisDraw 1.0 software, text saved as PICT then reopened looks fine, but ungrouping it causes the text color to change on the display and printed output.

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.

DISCUSSION

In ClarisDraw 1.0 software, text saved as PICT then reopened looks fine, but ungrouping it causes the text color to change on the display and printed output. This happens with any palette other than the 81 or standard 256 color palettes (note that ClarisDraw uses the 168-color palette by default).

To see this occur follow the :

    1. Launch ClarisDraw.
    2. Draw a cylinder about 2.5" by 3".
    3. Type a line of 36 point text, make the text purple, use the Palatino font.
    4. Select all and choose Bind Text to Object.
    5. Save as PICT.
    6. Open the PICT. (Notice the color looks correct.)
    7. Print (to compare) to a color LaserWriter printer and a color QuickDraw printer, such as a color DeskWriter.
    8. Ungroup the PICT.

Notice the text color has changed dramatically. The work around is to change the pallette to either an 81 color pallette or a 256 color pallette. This can be accomplished by going to the Layout menu and choosing Colors and Gradients, and then selecting one of the other pallettes. The Claris graphics development team is aware of the issue.
