DISCUSSION

If a Connection to AOL or CompuServe fails very quickly, without even dialing the modem, and a file named "False" is created on your desktop, you most likely have an older version of the Apple Modem Tool installed. To see if this is the case, open the System folder and then the Extensions folder. Select the Apple Modem Tool and choose Get Info from the File menu. If the file is a version earlier than 1.5.3, drag the file to the trash and run the Claris Emailer Installer again. As long as your Claris Emailer Folder is still on the main level of your hard drive, re-installing will preserve all your settings.

After doing an Easy Install, Quit the Installer, throw away the "False" file, launch Claris Emailer again, and open up any services you have accounts on (AOL or CompuServe). Click the Configure button for each service and make sure you see the version number 1.5.3 or later above the port selection area. Confirm that the phone number and modem type are correct and press OK.

    This should fix the problem.
