    WELCOME TO CLARISIMPACT 2.0!
    ----------------------------
Thank you for choosing ClarisImpact(R) 2.0. This Important Information file documents some additional tips that may prove helpful when using ClarisImpact 2.0, including changes for users of previous versions of the program. This document provides information on:

    I. Technical notes and tips
II. New features in ClarisImpact 2.0

    I. TECHNICAL NOTES AND TIPS
    -----------------------------
    A. Using ClarisImpact 1.0 and 2.0 on the same Macintosh
Some users may want to have both versions 1.0 and 2.0 on their Macintosh. (You might choose to do this if others in your organization have older versions of ClarisImpact.) If you plan to run both versions on your Macintosh, keep the following in mind:

    - Version 2.0 uses the same desktop information as version 1.0, so documents created in ClarisImpact 1.0 will show the ClarisImpact 2.0 document icons. When you double click these icons, they will automatically open in ClarisImpact 2.0. If you want to keep your 1.0 documents in 1.0 format, start ClarisImpact 1.0 and use the open menu item instead of double clicking the document icons.

For the same reason, the ClarisImpact 1.0 application will show the version 2.0 application icon on the desktop. Rename ClarisImpact 1.0 and ClarisImpact 2.0 applications accordingly to avoid getting them confused.

    - ClarisImpact 2.0 has a different file format than ClarisImpact 1.0. When you open a ClarisImpact 1.0 document with version 2.0, the document is converted to 2.0 format. This automatic conversion is indicated by the "- Converted" extension in the filename. If you save the converted file with a new name, the original 1.0 version is left intact.

After a file has been saved with version 2.0, it cannot be opened with version 1.0. Therefore, you should keep copies of important documents in 1.0 format if you or another user might need to access them using version 1.0 in the future.

    B. Converting ClarisImpact 1.0 Styles to ClarisImpact 2.0 Style.
To update ClarisImpact 1.0 Color Styles and ClarisImpact B&W Styles to ClarisImpact 2.0 format, you need to follow the instructions located on page 4 of the Installation Guide. When following these instructions, you will likely encounter a -48 error after step 3. Okay the alert and continue with the rest of the instructions.
The -48 error is the result of attempting to combine the ClarisImpact 1.0 9" SE Slides and 10" PowerBook Slides to a single Custom slide file. If you did not use these slide styles in ClarisImpact 1.0, there is no need to continue. However, if you wish to use one or both of these files with ClarisImpact 2.0, quit ClarisImpact and use the following steps.

To convet 9" SE Slides and 10" PowerBook Slides files to ClarisImpact 2.0:
    1. Make a copy of the original 9" SE Slide file.
    2. Rename the file "Custom".
    3. Copy the file to the folder created in step 8 of the Installation guide.
    4. Make a copy of the original 10" PowerBook Slide file.
    5. Rename the file "Custom".
    6. Create a new folder in the CIStyles folder named "10" PowerBook Slide"
    7. Copy the Custom file from step 5 to this folder.

The 9" SE Slide styles are accessed by selecting Custom from the slide size pop-up menu and the appropriate folder from the Style pop-up menu in the Presentation precreation dialog.
The 10" PowerBook Slide styles are accessed by selecting Custom from the slide size pop-up menu and the 10" PowerBook Slides from the Styles pop-up menu.

    C. Sharing files with ClarisImpact 2.0 for Windows
ClarisImpact 2.0 for Macintosh has the same file format, user interface, and feature set as ClarisImpact 2.0 for Windows. You can create a ClarisImpact document on Windows and edit it on a Macintosh computer, or vice versa. Therefore, if you work with both Macintosh and Windows versions of ClarisImpact, or if you collaborate with colleagues who use ClarisImpact 2.0 for Windows, you can work without translating files or learning a different program.

However, if you want to transfer files between platforms via diskette, you must use a file transfer program such as PC Exchange, AccessPC, or a similar utility. These utilities require that your Macintosh have a high density drive (FDHD SuperDrive). Follow the directions in the documentation of the file transfer utility program. After copying the files to or from a PC-formatted disk, rename the files with DOS-compatible filenames (8 characters or less) and include the .CID extension (for ClarisImpact Library files, use the .CLB extension).

After renaming your files, you can copy them to your computer's hard drive and open them as you would any ClarisImpact document.

Fonts, margins, and page breaks may look different after they are transferred from Windows to the Macintosh. You can minimize unintended text changes by using the same fonts on both platforms. ClarisImpact provides several TrueType fonts that are common to both platforms. In addition to common fonts, ClarisImpact uses the Claris Font Map file located in the Claris folder to define Macintosh font substitutes for common Windows fonts. The Claris Font Map file is a basic text file that can be edited to add additional substitutions or modify the font mapping provided by ClarisImpact.

Font mapping syntax in the Claris Font Map file is:
    <Windows font name>=<Macintosh font name>

ClarisImpact installs the following entries for you:

    Arial=Helvetica
    Courier New=Courier
    Times New Roman=Times

To create a new font substitution, create a new line in the Claris Font Map file similar to those above. If you are unsure of the Windows font name, open the ClarisImpact file on the Macintosh and use the font name that is displayed in the uninstalled font dialog box for the variable <Windows font name>.

Note: Fonts are mapped and stored by name, so the names need to match exactly. If you have made unnecessary changes and would like to revert back the original Claris Font Map file, delete the Claris Font Map file and restart ClarisImpact. ClarisImpact recreates the Claris Font Map file automatically during start up if it is missing.

    D. Adjusting ClarisImpact memory
In most cases, the preset memory allocation is adequate for working on ClarisImpact documents. However, if you are working with large drawing documents, very long documents, or if you have several large documents open at the same time, you may see the message "Not enough memory to complete this operation" or "The document has been reduced to fit the available memory." These messages mean that you need to increase the amount of memory set aside for ClarisImpact. Increasing the memory allocation may also reduce the time it takes to print some documents.

To increase the memory allocation for ClarisImpact:
    1. If ClarisImpact is open, quit the application.
    2. Open the folder that contains the ClarisImpact 2.0 application.
    3. Click the ClarisImpact application icon once. (If you click the icon twice, you'll start ClarisImpact. If that happens, choose Quit from the File menu and try again.)
    4. Choose Get Info from the File menu.
    5. Double-click the Preferred Size box.
    6. Type a larger number to increase the memory size.
    7. Close the ClarisImpact Info window.

    E. Software requirements for the DataDraw templates
If you want to use the database or spreadsheet templates that are installed in the DataDraw folder, you must have FileMaker(R) Pro or Microsoft Excel 5.0 installed on your system. Instructions for using each template are located on the Help screens in the FileMaker Pro and Excel template files.

    F. Installing or multi-using from Novell Netware servers
If you intend to allow multiple users to install ClarisImpact or run ClarisImpact as a multi-user application from Novell Netware servers and are using System 7.1 or 7.5, then you need to reset the shared bit for the installer and/or the ClarisImpact application. This bit is preset in ClarisImpact, but the setting is cleared when the files are copied to a server if you are using the system versions and the Netware server named above.

You can reset the shared bit using either of the following two methods:

    Method 1
Using the Netware Tools application, which comes with Novell Netware for Macintosh:
    1. Make sure you have access privileges to change files.
    2. Log onto the server.
    3. Start Netware Tools.
    4. Select File and Folder Flags from the Utility menu.
    5. Select the ClarisImpact Installer, ClarisImpact - Macintosh, and/or ClarisImpact - Power Macintosh that you want to share.
    6. Click Sharable.
    7. Close the File and Folder Flags window.
    8. Quit Netware Tools.

    Method 2
    Using ResEdit:
    1. Make sure you have access privileges to change files on the server.
    2. Log onto the server.
    3. Start ResEdit.
    4. Select Get File/Folder Info from the File menu.
    5. Select the ClarisImpact Installer, ClarisImpact - Macintosh, and/or ClarisImpact - Power Macintosh that you want to share.
    6. Click both Shared and Invisible in the Info window.
    7. Select Save from the File menu.
    8. Deselect the Invisible checkbox.
    9. Select Save in the File menu.
    10. Quit ResEdit.

II. NEW FEATURES IN CLARISIMPACT 2.0
    -----------------------------------

    A. Cross-platform support
ClarisImpact 2.0 is now available for Windows and Windows 95 as well as the Macintosh and the Power Macintosh. You can easily exchange files between platforms, because no file-format translation is needed.

    B. Automated data transfer with DataDraw(TM)
You can automatically convert information from FileMaker Pro, Microsoft Excel, or any application that exports data to a text file into a number of supported ClarisImpact business graphics. C. Enhanced styles
ClarisImpact styles have been professionally redesigned to reflect today's business standards. These pre-designed combinations of fonts and color schemes help you quickly communicate your data in an attractive graphic format.

    H. Versatile scheduling timelines
ClarisImpact timelines work well for planning simple projects and tracking milestones. Grid lines automatically adjust to match your project dates, tasks can be linked to and unlinked from each another, and any task can be designated as a milestone.

Create complex tables easily. In addition to organizing text and numbers, tables now work like spreadsheets by supporting industry-standard formulas and summations.

    J. More data chart types
We've added 32 new data chart types, simplified the terminology and interface for creating them, and included more ways to customize charts.

    K. Enhanced calendars
Produce business or personal calendars that display week numbers as well as weekday-only calendars. New calendar art makes it easier to highlight holidays and other common events.
