TOPIC
What to do if a ClarisDraw for Windows file does not appear in the Open dialog box, refuses to open, or opens as text (or otherwise improperly) when you double-click on it
Note that ClarisDraw for Macintosh 1.0v3 corrects this problem.
This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
DISCUSSION
ClarisDraw for Macintosh 1.0v1 or 1.0v2:
If you try to open a file from ClarisDraw for Windows with ClarisDraw for Mac 1.0v1 or 1.0v2, it may not open, or not be listed in the Open dialog box. To open the files, hold down the option key while selecting Open in ClarisDraw for Macintosh. While still holding down the Option key, select the ClarisDraw Windows file and open it. Once the file is saved by ClarisDraw for Macintosh, you will no longer need to do this.
Background: PC files do not have a Type and Creator attribute. On a Mac, these files default to the type 'TEXT' (which is incorrect), causing the above problems. Note that ClarisDraw for Macintosh 1.0v3 does not have this problem (see below).
ClarisDraw for Macintosh 1.0v3:
ClarisDraw for Macintosh 1.0v3 now opens ClarisDraw for Windows files directly from the Open File dialog box as long as the Windows files have the .cdd (ClarisDraw Document) or .cdt (ClarisDraw Template) extension.
In earlier versions of ClarisDraw for Macintosh, you had to hold down Option while choosing Open from the File menu to force ClarisDraw for Macintosh to open .cdd and .cdt files as ClarisDraw files, instead of incorrectly using the last XTND translator in the list (usually the text translator).
This change is unclear in the readme.txt file that ships with ClarisDraw for Windows.
