TOPIC
This article will assist you when removing unwanted files from the list of recently opened files for ClarisWorks for Windows.
This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
DISCUSSION
This is an update to an existing article.
===================================
When opening up files in ClarisWorks, ClarisWorks keeps a running list of the last four files that were opened and displays those file names at the bottom of the File menu. This information is updated each time a new file is opened, and the most recent file appears at the top of the list while all other names are booted down on the list with the one at the bottom moving completely off the list.
If you delete a file from your hard disk using the File Manager in Windows, the name does not disappear from the list. It will only disappear from the list after opening four other documents (if it was the first on the list when the file was deleted).
CLARISWORKS 3.x
In order to clear these files off the bottom of the file menu (without opening four documents), you need to edit the CLARIS.INI file. When you edit the CLARIS.INI file, in the ClarisWorks 3.0 section you will see lines that read:
LRUfile0=c:\<path>\<Filename.EXT>
LRUfile1=c:\<path>\<Filename.EXT>
LRUfile2=c:\<path>\<Filename.EXT>
If you delete these LRUfile<x> lines, it will remove the files from the File menu list. As you open new files, they will come up in the listing under the File menu.
CLARISWORKS 4.x
In order to clear these files off the bottom of the file menu (without opening four documents), you need to edit the Windows 95 System Registry.
PLEASE NOTE: The central information database for Windows 95 is called the Registry. Due to the importance of this file, great care must be taken when editing / modifying this file. It is recommended that only experienced users attempt to edit the Registry. It is also advisable to backup the Registry database before making changes. The Registry can be saved (exported) in text format as a .REG file by using the Registry Editor (REGEDIT.EXE). The Registry can later be restored (if necessary) by importing a .REG file that was created by exporting the Registry. Please consult your Windows 95 documentation for more information on the Registry Editor and backing up its contents. Please do not attempt the following Registry edits if you are not comfortable.
1. Click on the START button on the Windows 95 Task Bar and choose RUN.
2. In the OPEN dialog box, type in REGEDIT and click on OK.
3. In the REGISTRY EDITOR, double click on HKEY_CURRENT_USER
4. Under HKEY_CURRENT_USER, double click on the folder entitled SOFTWARE
5. Under SOFTWARE, double click on the folder entitled CLARIS CORP.
6. Under CLARIS CORP., double click on the folder entitled CLARISWORKS FOR WINDOWS
7. Under CLARISWORKS FOR WINDOWS, double click on the folder entitled CLARISWORKS 4.0
On the right hand side of the screen you should see several lines of data. Locate the lines that look similar to the ones below.
LRUfile0
LRUfile1
LRUfile2
If you delete these LRUfile<x> lines, it will remove the files from the File menu list. To do so, right click on the ones you want to delete and select DELETE from the pop-up menu. Make sure that you do not delete anything else but the lines that start with LRU. Once the edits have been made, close the Registry and relaunch ClarisWorks 4.x.
