TOPIC
When I start up from the Mac OS 8.5 Install CD-ROM, "Help Center" and "Mac OS Help" are no longer available under the Help menu.
DISCUSSION If the Apple Guide extension does not load, then these options will not appear in any application (including the Finder). Even though the Help System has changed in Mac OS 8.5, the Apple Guide extension is still required. The Apple Guide extension may not load if it is damaged, missing from the System Folder, or if there is not enough memory for it to load. If you use the Mac OS 8.5 CD to start up a computer with only 16 MB of physical RAM, there may not be enough RAM for Apple Guide to load, since virtual memory will be off when booting from the CD. Mac OS 8.5 requires considerably less RAM when virtual memory is turned on in the "Memory" control panel. It is not possible to turn on virtual memory when starting up from the Mac OS 8.5 CD. |
