Before Mac OS 8.5, I could set a desktop picture by double-clicking it. Shouldn't this work under Mac OS 8.5?
DISCUSSION The Desktop Pictures control panel provided the ability in Mac OS 8.0 and 8.1 to establish a desktop picture. In Mac OS 8.5, the Desktop Pictures control panel was eliminated and the function was moved into the Appearance Control Panel. In Mac OS 8.0 and 8.1, Apple installed some sample pictures in a folder called Sample Desktop Pictures within the Apple Extra folder on the hard drive. These pictures were set up with a file type of "dkpt" which associated them with the Desktop Pictures control panel. Thus, when these sample pictures are double-clicked or opened, Desktop Pictures launched and set the desktop to this picture. In Mac OS 8.5, Apple again supplies some sample pictures in a folder called Desktop Pictures within the Appearances folder inside the System Folder. These pictures have been set up with a file creator type of "apcp" which associates them with the Appearance control panel. When these pictures are double-clicked or opened, the Appearance control panel is launched, but this does not establish a desktop picture. The desktop picture file must be set by using the "Place Picture" button on the Desktop tab of the Appearance control panel, by dragging a picture file onto the miniature monitor preview area, or by using AppleScript to control the setting of a desktop picture. |
