Update and overview of the QuickTime Pro upgrade process.
DISCUSSION
Background The Mac OS 8.5 retail package includes QuickTime Pro; however, QuickTime Standard Edition is automatically installed with Mac OS 8.5. To get QuickTime Pro, you must register your copy of Mac OS 8.5 by double-clicking the "Register with Apple" icon on your desktop, or by visiting Apple's online registration web site at: http://www.apple.com/register/ During the registration process, you will be asked to provide your e-mail address (twice, to eliminate typing errors) and a valid SKU number from the registration card included with Mac OS 8.5. If you enter an invalid SKU, you will not be able to complete the registration process. Within one day after registration, you will receive an e-mail thanking you for registering and informing you that the QuickTime Pro upgrade key will be sent by e-mail within 7 days. Customers Outside of the United States Instructions for the registration process and data entry forms have been localized for European customers. At the initial registration screen, select a country from a pull-down list. At this time, some countries, including France, are missing from this list. Apple expects to have the remaining countries added shortly. In the meantime, you can select "other" from the list although the instructions will be in English. If You Don't Receive Your Upgrade Key If you have not received your upgrade key, you should verify that: If it has been less than seven days since you registered, be aware that it may take as long as seven days before you receive the upgrade key. Otherwise, you may re-register, being sure to provide a valid email address that accepts email from apple.com accounts. Customers Who Did Not Purchase A Retail ("Shrink-Wrapped") Copy Of Mac OS 8.5 Customers who did not purchase a retail ("shrink-wrapped") copy of Mac OS 8.5 but who wish to upgrade to the latest version of QuickTime should refer to Apple's QuickTime web site at: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/upgrade/index.html You can find answers to your questions about QuickTime at: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/ Note: Those who qualified to receive Mac OS 8.5 for $19.95, do not qualify for the free upgrade key. |
