TOPIC

This article details the options for installing additional hard drives inside a Power Macintosh G3 (Blue and White).

DISCUSSION

Hard drive expansion bays are located at the bottom of the enclosure and are numbered 1 through 3 from left (front of computer) to right (rear of computer). The factory installed ATA drive is located in bay 3. An optional factory SCSI drive, if installed, would be in bay 1. Standard configurations of the Power Macintosh G3 computer have expansion bays1 and 2 available.

The expansion bays accommodate one inch high, 3.5 inch devices. Power connectors are available for both expansion bays, data cables are not provided.

Power Macintosh G3 (Blue and White) computers with the U bracket in the hard drive expansion bay and a dual connector IDE cable can support two IDE drives in master and slave configuration. Only those computers with the U bracket installed from the factory have the necessary hardware to support multiple IDE drives.
