This document describes Apple Network Assistant 3.5.2 and how to install the software. The Network Assistant 3.5.2 Updater program updates Network Assistant from version 3.5 (which includes version 3.5.1 of the Network Assistant application and version 3.5 of the Network Assistant Startup extension and Network Assistant Security) to version 3.5.2. Network Assistant 3.5.2 corrects some screen sharing problems with Mac OS 8.5 and some compatibility issues with certain Power Macintosh G3 computers. Note: You cannot use this Updater to update the Apple Network Assistant 3.5 Trial version. Installing Apple Network Assistant 3.5.2 The Network Assistant 3.5.2 Updater only replaces software that is already installed. There are two ways you can update Network Assistant to the new version: Using the Network Assistant 3.5.2 Updater Using the Network Assistant 3.5.2 Updater on a workstation's hard disk or a removable storage disk, follow these steps: 1. Open the Network Assistant 3.5.2 Updater program. 2. In the dialog box that appears, click Update. 3. Locate the software indicated in the dialog box using the pop-up file directory, then click Update. If the item is not installed on the computer, click Skip. To update a Network Assistant item, it must be installed on the workstation. An administrator workstation has the following software installed: IMPORTANT: To use an administrator workstation to remotely update user workstations using the Network Assistant application, do not update the Network Assistant application until you've updated the user workstations. See "Updating Workstations Using Network Assistant." A user workstation has the following software installed: Network Assistant Startup extension It may also have Network Assistant Security installed. 4. Repeat step 3 to update all necessary software. 5. Click Quit to quit the Network Assistant 3.5.2 Updater. Updating Workstations Using Network Assistant You can use the Network Assistant 3.5.2 Updater to update the Network Assistant Startup extension and Network Assistant Security on an administrator workstation, then without restarting the workstation, use its current version of Network Assistant to copy the updated Network Assistant software components to user workstations. Each user workstation must have the following administrator access privileges (set in the Network Assistant Security program on the workstation): To update workstations on your network: 1. On an administrator workstation, open the Network Assistant 3.5.2 Updater program. 2. In the dialog box that appears, click Update. 3. Locate the Network Assistant Startup extension as indicated in the dialog box using the pop-up file directory, then click Update. 4. When prompted to update Network Assistant, click Skip. 5. If you want to install Network Assistant Security onto user workstations, locate this item as indicated in the dialog box using the pop-up file directory, then click Update. 6. Click Quit to quit the Network Assistant 3.5.2 Updater. 7. Open Network Assistant and select the workstations you want to update in the Workstation Status window or any report window. 8. Use the Copy Items command in the Manage menu to copy Network Assistant Startup and Network Assistant Security to user workstations. 9. With the workstations still selected in the Workstation Status window or any report window, use the Restart command in the Manage menu to restart the workstations. The user workstations are now updated. 10. Quit Network Assistant. 11. Open the Network Assistant 3.5.2 Updater and update the Network Assistant application on your workstation. 12. Restart your workstation. Changes in Network Assistant 3.5.2 IMPORTANT: To take advantage of this fix, you must remove all workstations you added using TCP/IP from your workstation lists in Network Assistant, and add them again.
