AppleWorks 5.0.3 Updater updates U.S. versions of ClarisWorks 5.0v1 and 5.0v2 to the current U.S. release of AppleWorks, 5.0.3. This Updater WILL NOT update any international versions of ClarisWorks. AppleWorks 5.0.3 is a maintenance release which changes the branding and look of ClarisWorks to AppleWorks. It addresses 10 bugs in the 5.0v1 release, but there are no functional changes from 5.0v2. The application and HTML filter are updated. Please see the updated "Read Me" document included with this software for a complete list of issues addressed with this update.

Instructions for installation :

Quit ClarisWorks. Run the Windows program AW503Updater.exe included in this distribution. Click Begin Update to start, or click Change folder to select a different copy of the application from the Open file dialog box.

AppleWorks 5.0.3 Updater Read Me

Thank you for investing in Apple software. From time to time, we produce maintenance releases of our software that add minor functionality, correct defects, or respond to customer requests.

Updates, in contrast to upgrades, contain few changes from the previous version. Instead of distributing the full, revised application, we can provide just the files necessary to incorporate the new functionality and fixes. When you run the accompanying updater, it combines your ClarisWorks 5.0v1 or 5.0v2 files with the new changes to create new AppleWorks 5.0.3 files.

The following files are updated with this updater: 1. ClarisWorks.exe - ClarisWorks 5.0v1 or 5.0v2 application 2. Readme.cwk - ClarisWorks document that describes general release information 3. html.f32 - ClarisWorks HTML filter (located in the ClarisWorks Translators directory) 4. All Assistant files 5. When updating from ClarisWorks 5.0v1, Jpeg.f32, Gif.f32, and Bmp.f32 are also updated.

Installing the Appleworks 5.0.3 Update

You can run the AppleWorks 5.0.3 Updater from a hard disk, or network disk drive.

The updater makes several changes to the resources in ClarisWorks. Virus utilities may try to prevent these changes. To avoid this inconvenience, temporarily disable all virus detection software before applying the update.

The AppleWorks 5.0.3 Updater works with U.S. versions of ClarisWorks 5.0v1 or 5.0v2. It does not work with earlier versions or international versions.

IMPORTANT Make sure your ClarisWorks application, and all other ClarisWorks related files have their original names (i.e., have not been renamed) and are in their default locations. If not, this updater will not function.

To install the update, follow these steps:

1. Quit ClarisWorks.

2. Run the Windows program AW503Updater.exe included in this distribution. A dialog box will appear showing the location of the application to be updated.

3. Click Begin Update to start, or click Change folder to select a different copy of the application from the Open file dialog box. A progress bar will appear while your application is being updated.

The AppleWorks 5.0.3 Updater changes ClarisWorks to AppleWorks. You will notice changes to the look of the application (including the splash screen, icons and the like) and references to "Claris" and "ClarisWorks" have been removed. Version 5.0.3 is functionally the same as 5.0v2 but corrects several minor problems in ClarisWorks 5.0v1:

• The business card assistant does not crash.
• Pressing the Ctrl key with a library palette and the Configure HTML dialog box open does not cause the program to crash.
• Curly quotes appear correctly after section and page breaks.
• Outline styles are imported correctly when overwriting an existing style.
• Double-clicking a file with a name similar to another file in the same folder opens the correct file.
• Custom indents can be applied correctly when editing an outline style.
• Spaces that have been formatted with the underline style print correctly.
• The Register ClarisWorks Assistant has been removed.
• You can print the correct page ranges when page numbers begin with 0, including starting a print job with the page numbered 1.
• When you run the program under an NT user account without administrator privileges, file types associated with certain other programs do not become incorrectly associated with AppleWorks. (However, file types that are currently associated with the wrong program need to be manually reset.)
