Description : If your Power Macintosh G3 (Blue and White) or Macintosh Server G3 came with a single channel Ultra2 low voltage differential (LVD) SCSI card, run this updater to install firmware on the card that yields more stable system performance. The new firmware is necessary to correct occasional faults related to cable termination that can occur when internal and external hard disk drives are connected to the card. DISCUSSION About the Ultra2 SCSI Card Firmware Update If your Power Macintosh G3 (Blue and White) or Macintosh Server G3 came with a single channel Ultra2 low voltage differential (LVD) SCSI card, run this updater to install firmware on the card that yields more stable system performance. The new firmware is necessary to correct occasional faults related to cable termination that can occur when internal and external hard disk drives are connected to the card. Hardware and Software Required You can use this utility with any (blue and white) Power Macintosh G3 or Power Macintosh Server G3 system that came with a single channel Ultra2 LVD SCSI expansion card and is running Mac OS 8.5.1 or later. If you are uncertain whether your computer has this card installed, open the Apple System Profiler, which is under the Apple Menu. Click the Devices and Volumes tab and look at the PCI entry. If Card Name: scsi and Card Model: Adaptec appear, the card is installed. Installing the Firmware To install the firmware update, double click the installer icon 2940U2B v1.1 Flash Utility and follow the instructions. Important Do not attempt to update the card's firmware while running the Mac OS X Server operating system. To update a Macintosh Server G3 computer that runs Mac OS X Server:
1. Start up the computer from a CD or other startup disc that uses MacOS 8.5.1 or later.
