TOPIC The TCP/IP Options control panel that comes with MacOS 8.6 contains a new check box for "Don't retain DHCP lease on shutdown." This article provides a workaround for a situation where once you turn this on, you can't turn it off. DISCUSSION
TCP/IP Options is an additional control panel that adds functionality not in the standard TCP/IP control panel. For full information on the options available in this control panel, refer to the following TIL articles: Article 21075: " TCP/IP Options Control Panel Read Me " Article 30994: " TCP/IP Options: What does "Don't retain DHCP lease on Shutdown" do? " There is a known issue with the current version of the control panel which makes it impossible to disable the checkbox for "Don't retain DHCP lease on shutdown." Once the check box is turned on and saved, you will be able to uncheck it, but the changes are not saved. If you close the control panel and reopen it, the check box is still checked. To revert to the original 8.6 behavior of maintaining lease information across reboots, you will need to do one of the following: If you wish to change between the two different settings often, create two different configurations in TCP/IP, one for each setting. Then, simply switch between the two TCP/IP configurations rather than using the TCP/IP Options control panel. |
