TOPIC
When using HD Target Mode after performing a clean installation of system software on a PowerBook G3 Series (Bronze keyboard), the SCSI ID of the PowerBook is set to 2 regardless of the setting in the PowerBook SCSI Setup control panel.
DISCUSSION This issue arises in the Mac OS ROM file version 1.4 which is part of the Mac OS Install on the Restore CD included with your PowerBook. Since Apple has shipped all PowerBook G3 Series (Bronze keyboard) computers with Mac OS ROM version 1.6 pre-installed, this situation arises only after performing a clean installation. If you run the Mac OS Install instead of the Apple Software Restore, you must install the 1.6 version of the Mac OS ROM. The Mac OS ROM version 1.6 file is contained in the Important Extra System Software folder on your PowerBook G3 Series CD that accompanies your computer. After performing a clean installation using the Mac OS Install, copy the Mac OS ROM file, along with the other items in the folder, into your System Folder and restart. After restarting, you can set the SCSI ID in the PowerBook SCSI Setup control panel as you normally would. For additonal information on this folder see the following Tech Info Library article: Article 58352: " PowerBook G3 Series (Bronze keyboard): About Important Extra System Software Folder ". |
