TOPIC

This article explains how Power Manager 2.0 can save energy by turning off Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) cards installed in a Power Mac G4 (AGP Graphics) computer.

DISCUSSION

Power Manager2.0 can turn off the PCI cards installed in a Power Mac G4 (AGP Graphics) computer. Turning off the PCI cards when the computer is in sleep allows it to save energy. With all the PCI cards turned off, the cooling fan can also be turned off providing more power savings.

To get the most energy savings, all PCI cards installed in the computer must allow Power Manager2.0 to turn them off. Some PCI cards are designed to be turned on when the computer is turned on. If one of these kinds of cards is installed, Power Manager2.0 does not turn it off, and the computer's cooling fan continues to run when the computer is in sleep.

If your Power Mac G4 (AGP Graphics) does not turn off its cooling fan when in sleep, check with the vendors of the PCI cards installed in your computer to find out if they are compliant with Sleep Manager 2.0, or if they can be upgraded to be compliant.
