TOPIC
Unlike other PowerBook computers, the iBook does not have a backup battery. This article provides some information about this.
DISCUSSION Because there is no backup battery, if the iBook main battery is discharged and you want to replace it with another charged battery, it is best to do this with the AC adapter plugged in. If you do not have access to AC power, there is a small capacitor that maintains the system clock for approximately 10 minutes. The PRAM is not affected by the long term removal of the main system battery. You cannot swap a battery without AC power connected. If you do, the contents of RAM are lost when the main battery is removed. If you do not have access to AC power, it is best to shut down the iBook before swapping the battery.
