This article provides some tips for using the AirPort Setup Assistant.

DISCUSSION
    • When finished with the AirPort setup assistant, click Quit then launch your Web browser or e-mail application. Doing so will cause the Base Station modem to dial your Internet service provider (ISP). If your ISP is slow to connect you may get an error. Quit your Web browser or e-mail application and launch it again.

Note: There will be a slight delay while the Base Station dials your ISP.

    • After clicking "Go ahead" in the AirPort Setup Assistant to configure the Base Station, there will be a pause whereby the computer may appear to be in a frozen state. This is normal; the AirPort Setup Assistant is configuring the AirPort Base Station for use. The pause will last approximately 45 seconds.
    • The AirPort application, when launched after running the Setup Assistant, will indicate the AirPort Base Station modem is not connected. This is normal, launch your Web browser or e-mail client to initiate the connection to your ISP.
    • You are given the option to rename your AirPort Base Station within the Setup Assistant. However, as you move through the Setup Assistant panels, you will notice the name has returned to its default of "xxxxxx AirPort Base Station."

This is normal, the name you entered has been accepted by the Base Station itself, even though it is not shown within the Setup Assistant.

Note: If your dial-up connection has been idle for 10 minutes, the Base Station modem will disconnect. The Base Station modem will redial your ISP when a user requests Internet service.
    • If you use the Dial Assist control panel, the AirPort Setup Assistant will not use those settings to change the phone number. For example, you can use the Dial Assist control panel to dial a 9 prefix before the phone number in all Remote Access connections. When the AirPort Setup Assistant downloads the Remote Access configuration to the AirPort Base Station, it will not add the 9 prefix.
