TOPIC This article explains how to install an AirPort Card into an AirPort-ready iMac computer. Similar instructions, with graphics, are included with the AirPort Card. You may also view the following procedure in QuickTime at http://www.info.apple.com/installparts . DISCUSSION Follow these instructions to install an AirPort Card into an AirPort-ready iMac computer. See Note 1. 1. Shut down the computer. 2. Unplug all cables, except the power cord. 3. Place the computer face down on a soft cloth. 4. Unlock the access door with a coin. 5. Open the access door. 6. Touch the metal shield inside the recessed latch area to discharge static electricity. 7. Unplug the power cord from the computer. Don't walk around the room until you've finished installing the AirPort Card. 8. Detach the antenna from the left rail guide on the upper AirPort Card slot 9. Remove the protective cap. 10. Connect the antenna to the AirPort Card. 11. Align the edges of the AirPort Card with the guides on the slot and insert the AirPort Card sideways into the slot, as shown in Figure 1. 12. Close the access door and use a coin to lock it. 13. Reconnect all cables and cords. 14. Press the power button on the computer. See Note 3. The Indigo iMac (Summer 2000) computer with a 350 MHz microprocessor does not include an AirPort card slot. (The parenthetical product description (Summer 2000) refers to the summer of the Northern Hemisphere.) 2. Never turn your computer on unless all of its internal and extra parts are in place. Note: Wireless internet access requires AirPort Card, AirPort Base Station, and Internet Access (fees may apply). Some ISPs are not currently compatible with AirPort, including America Online. Range may vary with site conditions.
