TOPIC After installing an AirPort card and restarting, the AirPort Setup Assistant version 1.0 displayed the following error message: "The required AirPort software was not found on this computer. Check the Extensions Manager control panel to make sure the AirPort software is enabled. You may need to reinstall the software if this message persists." DISCUSSION The error message, shown in Figure 1, usually occurs if the AirPort 1.0 software is not installed or has been disabled by the Extensions Manager control panel. This error message can also be displayed if the AirPort Card is not installed properly.
Figure 1 AirPort Software Not Installed Error Message The most common AirPort Card installation issue is not seating the card fully in the computer's AirPort card slot. On the iBook, the AirPort card must be installed with the serial number facing up. The AirPort Card slides underneath the wire bracket and then is pushed firmly towards the trackpad into the AirPort Card slot. When the AirPort card is fully inserted the wire bracket, when tilted back towards the display, will rest completely behind the card to keep it in place and will not rest on top of the card.
