TOPIC

Do I need to do anything special with my AirPort equipped computer before flying?

DISCUSSION

You must turn off the AirPort Card to comply with the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) regulation requiring all passengers to disable any radio transmission devices while on the aircraft, just as you would a cell phone or other radio transmitter device. Use the AirPort control strip or the AirPort application to toggle the AirPort card on and off.

To use the AirPort control strip, select Turn AirPort Off.

In the AirPort Application, click the Turn AirPort Off button.

When using the 1.0 version of the AirPort software, the ability to turn off the AirPort Card is disabled if the AppleTalk control panel is not set to "Connect via: AirPort".

Note: On June 12, 2000 Apple released version 1.2 of the AirPort software which supercedes AirPort 1.0 and 1.1. All 1.0 and 1.1 installations should upgrade to the latest version of the AirPort software available from the Apple Software Updates Web site at http://www.apple.com/swupdates .
