TOPIC This article discusses the International considerations of using the AirPort software, and AirPort Base Station and Cards. DISCUSSION Because the regulations for wireless communication vary between countries, the AirPort card and Base Station are only certified for use in the country they were originally sold. In the case of the base station, both the modem and wireless card must be individually certified for use in the various countries. While travelling by air, you should turn off the AirPort Card to comply with the airline requirement to disable radio transmission devices while on the aircraft, just as you would a cell phone or other radio transmitter device. This is detailed in article 58548: " AirPort Card: Disable During Air Travel ". Different country regulations restrict which channels can be used with Airport Wireless Communication. You should only use the permitted channels within each country. Switching between channels is detailed in article 58550: " AirPort Base Station: Channel Selection and Overlap ". In particular, special requirements should be observed in France where only 4 channels are permitted. |
