TOPIC This article offers tips for viewing DVD movies on both an external computer monitor and a television using a PowerBook computer equipped with a DVD-ROM drive. DISCUSSION
External Monitor If you are having difficulty viewing a DVD movie on an external monitor attached to a PowerBook equipped with a DVD-ROM drive: 1. Make sure all the connections and cabling are correct. Verify that you can view the Macintosh desktop on the external monitor before troubleshooting DVD viewing on that monitor. 2. Make sure that Video Mirroring is off. The DVD software does not work properly with Video Mirroring on. 3. As shown in Figure 1, use the Monitors control panel to move the menu bar to the monitor on which you wish to view the DVD Movie.
4. If you get the error message, "The Apple DVD Player does not support the video card or settings of the main screen.", shown in Figure 2, make sure that both the internal and the external video settings are set at thousands of colors and 1024 x 768.
Television Viewing
Note : Only NTSC and PAL video output formats are available. If your TV only accepts SECAM, select PAL as the output; the picture will be seen in black & white, unless a PAL to SECAM converter has been added between PowerBook and TV. For additional information on PAL, NTSC, and SECAM, see article 13074: " Video Definitions: NTSC, PAL, SECAM ". You may wish to do your setup tasks using the PowerBook screen as the one with the menu bar, then move the menu bar to the TV just before you plan to watch the move. Use the following keystrokes to close windows and watch the movie: Additional assistance on the Apple DVD Player can be found in the Help menu.
