This article describes how a small number of Apple Studio Displays may self-activate the power switch or Monitors control panel launch button.

Symptom

A small number of Apple Studio Displays may exhibit the following symptoms without user interaction:

• If the Apple Studio Display and computer are on, they may turn off or go to sleep.
• If the Apple Studio Display and computer are on, they may turn on or wake up.
• If the Monitors control panel is closed it may open
• If the Monitors control panel is open it may close

• Apple Studio Display LCD (ADC)
• Power Mac G4

1. Make sure the display is on a sturdy, flat surface.
2. Check the setting in the Energy Saver control panel. The computer may be in sleep mode according to these settings.
3. Verify the display cable is plugged securely into the Power Mac G4 Cube or Power Mac G4 (Gigabit Ethernet) computer.
4. Verify that the computer power cord and/or power supply (Power Mac G4 Cube) are plugged securely into the wall socket.
5. Make sure nothing is touching the monitor in the area of either button.
6. Make sure electrical devices such as phones, lighting, computers, other displays, fans, and so forth are at least 1 meter away from the display. If the symptoms disappear, keep the device you moved clear of the display.
7. If the symptoms persist, contact Apple support for further instructions.
