TOPIC

Apple File Services installer is integrated into the core OS installer and installs the items below into appropriate locations within the local file system hierarchy.

DISCUSSION

    Apple File Services Server
    (/usr/sbin/AppleFileServer)
The core AFP server application, which is a daemon process.

    Server Control API Framework
    (System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ServerControl)
The Server Control API framework is shared with QuickTime Streaming server

    Remote Admin CGI
    (/System/Library/RemoteAdminServer/CGI-Executables/)
A lightweight pass-through process that is invoked by the web server and in turn transmits requests to the Web-Based Admin Server. It also receives the reply from the Web-based Admin Server and transmits it back to the web server, which then sends the reply back to the browser.

    Remote Admin Server (/System/Library/RemoteAdminServer/FastCGI/RemoteAdminServer)
Handles authentication and majority of admin tasks.

Remote Admin Java and Image Files (/System/Library/RemoteAdminServer//Documents/)
Java classes are used for authentication and password encryption.

Log Files: There are two log files kept by the server:
    • The AFP server creates a log file at /Local/Library/AppleFileServices/AppleFileAccess.log and logs key events if the "Enable Log" preference is set in Remote Administration.
    • The server error log file is located at /Local/Library/AppleFileServices/AppleFileError.log. This log is always enabled.
