TOPIC

Under Mac OS X Server, you may notice a file named ".dir5_0.wmd". This article tells what the file is and what it does.

DISCUSSION

This file is the equivalent of the Desktop Database under Mac OS 8, and stores things like icon placements and sort order. You can delete it without concern. Note that other '.' files, which are invisible unless you are in Expert mode, are often needed by various Unix-compatible programs, and should not be deleted.
