TOPIC

    Mounting Linux NFS Volumes Issues:

If you are using Mac OS X Server as an NFS client and you mount a Linux volume as the NFS server, you may see the message "Permission denied."

This document was installed by Mac OS X Server in /System/Documentation/ReadMe. For a list of other release notes see article 30925: " Mac OS X Server: Release Notes "

DISCUSSION

    To solve this issue:
    • Log in to the Linux server and edit /etc/exports to add the "insecure" option to the filesystem you want to mount on your Mac OS X Server.

While this solution causes a small reduction in security, you don't need to repeat this step every time you add or reinstall a Mac OS X Server client.

Note : If you cannot change the Linux server, you can work around the issue by opening Terminal on your Mac OS X Server computer and using a mount command with a "-P" options flag (for example, mount -o"-P") to mount the Linux volume. However, you must do this each time you add or reinstall a Mac OS X Server as a client to the server. Because NetworkManager doesn't support the "-P" option flag, you must add the option to the NetInfo /mounts entry if you want to use NetworkManager to mount the volume.
