TOPIC

I created a Panels and restricted Finder workgroup in Macintosh Manager with privileges to only see the Chooser. When I log in to the Panels or restricted Finder workgroup, I still have access to the Control Panels, Favorites, and Automated Tasks. They show up as generic icons.

In the Panels workgroup, selecting most of the items in the Control Panels, I get a warning message that I "do not have enough privileges." However, selecting Startup Disk allows me to change the current startup disk. Selecting TCP/IP gives me an error that there is "not enough memory..." Selecting QuickTime settings will freeze the client computer.

How can I fix this problem?

DISCUSSION

Use the NetBoot Desktop Admin to make a private copy of the NetBoot HD and Applications HD volumes. Refer to the NetBoot Desktop Admin Read Me for instructions on how to do this.

Once you have write access to the NetBoot HD, navigate to the Apple Menu Items folder in the System folder. To fix the generic icons for the Control Panels, Favorites, and Automated Tasks, choose Get Info from the File menu (command+I) on each icon. Closing the Get Info window will restore the correct icon.

Follow the instructions for the NetBoot Desktop Admin to make the NetBoot HD and Applications HD read-only.

Now, when you login to the Panels workgroup, only the Chooser should be available.
