TOPIC I purchased Mac OS X Server and installed it on my computer. How can I remove it and reinstall Mac OS 8 that came with my computer? DISCUSSION The Mac OS X Server installation guide recommended you partition your hard disk prior to installing Mac OS X Server. When Mac OS X Server was installed, the hard disk partition format was changed from Mac OS Standard format (also known as HFS) or Mac OS Extended format (also known as HFS Plus) to Mac OS X Server filesystem (also known as UFS). Mac OS 8 does not recognize UFS volumes. To fully ues the disk with the Mac OS that came with your computer, the hard disk will need to be reformatted. Warning: Reformatting the hard disk will cause all data to be erased. Make sure any files you want to keep are backed up. To reinstall the Mac OS that came with your computer do the following:
2. Start up the computer with the Mac OS CD-ROM disc that came with your computer. (Insert the disc and press the C key on restart). 3. Run the Drive Setup utility (located on the CD) and reformat the drive Mac OS X Server is installed on. If the disk was partitioned all partitions will be reformatted. 4. Quit Drive Setup. 5. Run the Mac OS software installer on the CD-ROM disc. 6. Restart the computer. |
