TOPIC

Video and still-image clips have motion properties that determine their size, position in the Canvas, rotation, and shape. You can change these properties in the Canvas or Viewer or in the clip's Motion tab. You can also change most of these properties over time using keyframes to create animation.

Note : Before editing motion properties, decide whether to edit the motion property in the Timeline (which applies the changes only to that copy of the clip in that sequence) or in the Browser (which applies the changes to the clip whenever you insert that clip into a sequence).

DISCUSSION

To edit motion properties for a clip:
      1. Display the clip in the Viewer.
      2. Click the Motion tab in the Viewer.
      3. Click the triangle to display parameters for the motion effect you want to modify.
      4. Modify the parameters you want to change.

    The parameters include:
    • scale: resize a clip that is smaller or larger than the sequence frame
    • rotation: change a clip's position by rotating it a specified number of degrees
    • center:the position of the image
    • center offset: change the point on the image around which rotation occurs
    • crop: remove portions of a clip (from side, top, or bottom)
    • distortion: change the shape of a clip by adjusting its corners
    • opacity: adjust the degree to which a clip can be seen through
    • drop shadow: adjust a shadow's offset, angle, color, softness, and opacity
    • motion blur: adjust the percentage of blurring and set a number of frames to create the blur

For more information about editing motion properties in the Canvas, see "Editing Motion Properties" in Chapter 12 of the "Final Cut Pro User's Manual."
