TOPIC

This article describes an issue with the G3 Firmware Updater that is included with Final Cut Pro 1.0.

DISCUSSION

Final Cut Pro 1.0 includes G3 Firmware Updater 1.0.1 for the Power Macintosh G3 (Blue and White). It installs version 1.1f1 of Open Firmware. Apple has identified an issue with this version of Open Firmware that can cause the computer to crash at system startup time after an unformatted UltraDMA (ATA) hard drive is installed in the computer. (Crash does not imply that the hardware was harmed.)

This issue does not occur with the original version of Open Firmware that shipped with the Power Macintosh G3 (Blue and White). G3 Firmware Updater 1.0.1 is only available to users who purchase Final Cut Pro 1.0. The issue is resolved in G3 Firmware Updater1.0.2 or later, available from Apple Software Updates.

All Power Macintosh G3 (Blue and White) customers should download and install the latest firmware updater for their computer from the Apple Software Updates Web site at http://www.apple.com/swupdates/ even if they do not use Final Cut Pro.
