TOPIC

This article describes the new features of the Keyboard control panel 8.2, including the Dvorak keyboard layout.

DISCUSSION

Additional keyboard layouts have been added to Mac OS 8.6 to support Dvorak keyboards. A Dvorak keyboard is a keyboard whose keys are in different order than standard keyboards. For example, standard American keyboards start with the letters QWERTY. A Dvorak keyboard starts with the characters ',.pyf.

Dvorak keyboards are designed to be easier and quicker to use and with fewer mistakes. Using a Dvorak keyboard involves having to relearn how to type. The keyboard layout is a way that to get the functionality of a Dvorak keyboard without having to buy a Dvorak keyboard.

To select the Dvorak keyboard layout, open the Keyboard control panel:

    • Click the checkbox for Dvorak or Dvorak - Qwerty to select the keyboard layout.
    • Clicking the Options... button will allow you to specify Keyboard Menu Shortcuts used to toggle between selected keyboard layouts.
