TOPIC

This article provides tips on using multiple displays with Final Cut Pro.

DISCUSSION

Although the timeline can span two displays, the timeline cannot be wider than the default display. Isolating elements on one display allows better application and playback performance. Apple does not recommend placing or spanning windows so they overlap displays.

However, the workspace is flexible enough to allow customization. For example, the default workspace: viewer, canvas, browser, timeline and palette can be separated so the viewer and canvas reside on one display and the browser, timeline, and palette reside on a second display.

Also, the timeline "view" can be adjusted (zoomed) to show more or less detail. Zoom out to view the entire timeline, or zoom in to view detailed sections.

More information on customizing the Timeline appears on page 181 in the Final Cut Pro User's Manual:
    • Customizing the Timeline Track Display
    • Timeline Scaling and Scrolling (Scaling the Timeline Display)
