TOPIC

This article details an issue regarding jumpy or erratic pointer movement when copying files to or from a Zip disk.

DISCUSSION

    Symptom

When copying files to or from a Zip drive on a computer with a USB keyboard and mouse, pointer movement is jumpy or erratic. The behavior is most apparent when the Finder Copy window is the active window.

    Products affected

    • Power Macintosh G3 (Blue and White)
    • Power Mac G4 (AGP Graphics)
    • Power Mac G4 (Gigabit Ethernet)

    Solution

The Zip driver causes the pointer location to be updated less frequently on the screen. However, there is no slowdown of operation. Apple is aware of this issue and is investigating possible solutions.

To minimize the behavior during file copies to and from the Zip drive, click in another window to make it active instead of the Finder Copy window.
