The iMac CD Firmware Update application places new firmware on the CD-ROM drive to reduce the amount of disc vibration. This vibration is typically caused by unbalanced discs spinning at higher speeds in the internal CD-ROM drive. This vibration may cause the drive to have difficulty reading the CD. The update also corrects an intermittent delay that can occur on some iMac models when there is no disc in the CD-ROM drive.

      3. Double-click the application iMac CD Update.
      4. Click continue in the dialog box.
      5. If the application is unable to update the firmware on your CD-ROM drive, you may have a system that is not affected by these problems, or the firmware may already be updated. 6. If the firmware is already updated, you may be offered an opportunity to revert to the original firmware. If you wish to do this, click the Revert button. Otherwise, click Quit.

Important: Do not reset, shut down, or turn off power to your computer while the iMac CD Update is running. Doing so may cause damage to your CD-ROM drive.
