TOPIC

I imported a video clip using iMovie. The clip was filmed as the clock rolled over from 1999 to 2000. Two unexpected things happened:

      1. When the clock rolled over, the clip was split into two clips.
      2. The second clip's date was listed in the Timeline as <not recognized>.

    Why is this happening?

DISCUSSION

There is a minor issue with iMovie 1.0 and 1.0.1 that can cause the behavior you describe.
    • If you are importing source material that was actually recorded as the clock rolled over to 2000, and you have the "Start new clip at scene break" preference selected, the clip will be split when the clock rolls over. You can work around this by unchecking the "Start new clip at scene break" preference when capturing that section of source video.
    • iMovie 1.0 and 1.0.1 will show <unknown date> for source material recorded after 31 Dec. 1999. The date information is for convenience. This does not affect your ability to use the application.

This issue is addressed in iMovie 1.0.2. If you have iMovie 1.0 or 1.0.1 you can download the 1.0.2 updater at the following URL:
