TOPIC There is an issue with the way that Final Cut Pro 1.2.1 recaptures clips that are in PAL format. This article describes the incorrect behavior, as well as a workaround to avoid it. Note: This issue has been resolved in Final Cut Pro 1.2.5. The Final Cup Pro 1.2.5 Update can be downloaded from the following Web site: http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/ . DISCUSSION
Symptom Users of Final Cut Pro and PAL devices may see an incorrect behavior when performing the following steps: During recapture, Final Cut Pro attempts to capture all the clips that are used in sequences with more media than was originally captured, resulting in unexpected differences in the sequences in which they are used.
When capturing in PAL, always keep a separate log of clips in the browser. When you need to recapture the clips, follow these steps: 1. Keeping your current project open, create a new project. 2. Copy all the clips from the original project browser to the new project browser. 3. Close the original project so that your new project has no sequences inside of it. 4. If the copied clips have user defined In and Out points, clear them now. The In and Out columns in the browser can be cleared in their entirety by using the Clear contextual menu command in the desired column. (Press the Control key and click to see the menu.) See Figure 1. Note: If you leave these columns set with user in and out points, the batch capture tool will not recapture the entire original clip. (For instructions on how to relink files, see page 269 of the Final Cut Pro manual.) Note: This issue has been resolved in Final Cut Pro 1.2.5.
