• System Software: 8.6 or later

• For Mac OS 7.5.1 or earlier, use AppleShare Workstation version 3.5.
• For Mac OS 7.5.1 up to (but not including) version 7.5.3, use AppleShare Workstation version 3.6.5.
• For Mac OS 7.5.3 up to (but not including) version 7.6, use AppleShare Client version 3.7.4.
• For Mac OS 7.6 up to (but not including) version 8.1, use AppleShare Client version 3.8.3.
• For Mac OS 8.1 up to (but not including) version 8.6, use AppleShare Client version 3.8.6. If you use startup mounting, you should use 3.8.3 instead.
• For Mac OS 8.6 and later, use AppleShare Client version 3.8.8.
  If you use startup mounting and are not running Mac OS 9 or later, you should use 3.8.3 instead.

1. Open the Extensions folder within the System Folder on your server and drag the old version of the "AppleShare" extension to the trash.
2. Drag the "AppleShare" extension from the AppleShare Client folder on the AppleShare IP 6.3.3 CD onto the closed System Folder. Replace the older version of the AppleShare extension with this version when prompted.
3. Restart your computer.

• Fixes problems with DHX Authentication when used with longer than 8 chcracter passwords.
• Fixes a problem where clippings files containing AFP URLs with spaces were not being handled properly.
• Fixes a problem preventing changing passwords using DHX in Network Browser or other client of the AFPSharedVolumeEnumerator API.
• Removes the check for broadcast addresses in the Enter IP Address dialog, as it was not handling Airport supplied addresses properly.
• Fixes a problem in the volume list where volumes that the user cannot access were not greyed out.
• Fixes the problems selecting volumes for startup mounting when they were already mounted.

• There may still be a crashing bug when changing passwords using DHX via the Network Browser. Use the Chooser to change passwords instead.
• If a password dialog comes up after double clicking on a volume in the Network Browser make sure that the password for the account is not empty. The volume mounting code does not work well with empty passwords.
• If you experience unexpected disconnects when mounting server volumes via TCP/IP, and you are using DHCP to obtain an IP address, there may be problems with the DHCP lease times. Look in the TCP/IP control panel for information about DHCP.
• If you have TCP/IP set to use PPP to connect to a server and you open an alias to an AppleShare IP server (or any other server that supports AFP over TCP/IP), the AppleShare client software will try to connect using TCP/IP first before using AppleTalk. If you do not want this to happen, you can set PPP to not connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications in the PPP (Remote Access) control panel.
• If the client machine running System 8.5 is hanging when accessing the server and the client machine is also running Virex v5.9, disable Virex using the Extensions Manager and contact Network Associates for an update to Virex v5.9.1.
• If the client machine hangs when writing to the server and the client machine is also running Norton AntiVirus 5.0, launch Norton AntiVirus and select "Turn Auto-Protect Off" from the Preferences menu. For Norton AntiVirus updates, please contact Symantec support.
• Versions of the Novell NetWare User Authentication Modules prior to version 5.11 are incompatible with AppleShare client version 3.7 and later. Contact Novell for an update of the modules.
• If you are having problems mounting volumes when you start up your computer using a TCP/IP connection, try setting TCP/IP to always load using the TCP/IP Control Panel. If that doesn't work, try turning on virtual memory using the Memory control panel.
• If you are receiving "Server not responding" errors when connecting to the server using TCP over PPP, use the AppleShare Client Setup utility (available on the Apple Support Web site at www.apple.com/support) to increase the TCP Lookup timeout from 20 seconds to the time it takes the PPP link to connect plus 20 seconds.
• If you have an alias to a server that supports TCP/IP, and the server is behind a firewall that doesn't allow pings to go through, you will not be able to connect via the alias unless you use the AppleShare Client Setup utility (available on the Apple Support Web site at www.apple.com/support/) and disable the "Verify TCP Address with ping" checkbox in the Network panel.
• If you have a Global Village 56k Flex Modem card and you are using PPP version 1.0.1 to connect to your Internet service provider (ISP) using TCP/IP, you need to disable the modem software's menu bar status indicators or open PPP to connect to your ISP yourself, before using the Chooser to connect to an AppleShare file server over TCP/IP.
• If the Chooser freezes after you click the OK button in the volume dialog box, try disabling the Apple Menu Options control panel.
