TOPIC

When I perform a search of the Internet, using Sherlock with all "Search Sites" enabled, I encounter difficulties.

DISCUSSION

Sometimes while attempting to use Sherlock to search the Internet after turning all search sites On, your Macintosh may freeze, or you may encounter this error message:

This is probably a case of Sherlock's memory partition being too small, as the default is set at 1,024k (1 MB).

The default memory partition should be adequate for the default search sites, but if you need to search a lot of sites and expect to get many hits (300-plus), increase the memory partition in Sherlock to 2 MB by following these steps:

    • Inside the System Folder, find the Apple Menu Items folder.
    • Locate the Sherlock icon and select it.
    • Choose Get Info from the File menu.
    • Use the Show: dropdown menu to select Memory.
    • In the Memory Requirements section, enter 2048 (kBytes, or 2 MB) in the Preferred Size: box.
    • Close Sherlock's Info using the close box in the upper-left corner.
