About Color StyleWriter 4000 Series Drivers Serial version 1.1.1, and AppleTalk version 1.0.4

This document contains important information about the Color StyleWriter 4000 Driver software.

The Color StyleWriter 4000 Driver Software

There are two types of the CSW 4000 drivers: a) the CSW 4000 Series, version 1.1.1 for serial connected printers and b) CSW 4000 Series (AT), version 1.0.4 for AppleTalk connected printers.

The CSW 4000 Driver software fixes a known incompatibility with Mac OS 9 software. These drivers are required when printing to a CSW Series 4000 printer from Mac OS 9. Since there are no other changes to these drivers other than to provide compatibility with Mac OS 9, they will only install on systems with Mac OS 9 installed. In addition, this software is only available for English systems (North American English and International English).

Installing the Color StyleWriter 4000 Driver Software

Since both drivers will be installed, use the Chooser to select the appropriate driver for your printing configuration.

Installing After Upgrading to Mac OS 9

During the recommended Mac OS 9 installation process the CSW drivers are deleted if they are present; so these CSW drivers should be installed after installing Mac OS 9. The drivers can be installed by using the automatic Software Update feature of Mac OS 9 or manually download the installer from the Apple web site.

Installing after a Mac OS 9 Clean Install

After completing a clean install of Mac OS 9, re-install the Color StyleWriter software package that came with your printer to ensure all fonts are present. Now, you can install the Color StyleWriter 4000 driver update.

Installing on a new Macintosh system which came with Mac OS 9 Pre-Installed

If you wish to use a CSW 4100 or 4500 printer with hardware that has Mac OS 9 pre-installed, install the Color StyleWriter software package that came with your printer to ensure all fonts are present. Now, you can install the Color StyleWriter 4000 driver update.

Known Issues with the Color StyleWriter 4000 Drivers

All versions of the CSW 4000 driver, including CSW 4000 Series version 1.1 and 1.1.1, and the CSW 4000 Series (AT) version 1.0.3 and 1.0.4 are not compatible with ColorSync 3.x. We recommend you do not use ColorSync color matching with these drivers. The installers for CSW 4000 Series version 1.1 or earlier and the CSW 4000 Series (AT) version 1.0.3 or earlier will remove ColorSync 3.x from your system. If you plan to use another printer or application that takes advantage of ColorSync 3.x, re-install ColorSync 3 by using the Add/Remove feature of the Mac OS 9 Installation CD.

The Color StyleWriter 4000 Driver software supports foreground printing ONLY.

Since the CSW serial driver, version 1.1.1, is not compatible with the Macintosh PowerBook 2300, it will be necessary to use the AppleTalk driver when printing to a CSW 4000 series printer.
